Thomas isn’t dumb, and he’s not a spear carrier for Scalia. Thomas is an extremist who makes Scalia look almost moderate by comparison.

just like states can individually allow slavery, I guess.

what a complete moron. Of all of Reagan’s stupid stupid stupid ideologically driven exercises, the nomination of Thomas has been the most clearly dreadful. He is hopelessly inept in dealing at the SCOTUS level without being the de facto eternal apprentice lap dog of Scalia, and at times revealing himself to be a truly sociopathic type of personality. I would not put it against him to allow slavery/indentured servitude should that come up (and it will as a large plurality of the country moves further and further to the right). Thomas is OK with establishing religion just as long as it is the American Jesus Party’s version of religion.

The Confederacy never died, it just hid in the walls, festering and spreading until once again it became fashionable to talk of sedition, shooting one’s fellow Americans, and nullification.

I don’t believe it was intentional, but you could have chosen a better metaphor.

Does this mean a Supreme Court Justice doesn’t need to read the entire constitution to get the job in first place? Gee, what a surprise.

Hey, Tommy boy. If you’re reading this, the fourteenth amendment says you’re completely f***ing wrong.

Thomas was nominated by President George H.W. Bush, not Reagan.
